Quick update...

Subject: Noir
...in absence of the "Tsubasa Chronicle" finale (which, by the way, has been confirmed for a second season by both NHK and CLAMP; but you probably knew that).

I tried to give "Black Cat" a second chance with episode 2, and I tell you, it managed to pack just about everything I hate about anime into the first 10 minutes. I couldn't stand it anymore, so I stopped it. I think I'll consider it "dropped".

Out of curiousity, I grabbed the raw for "Noien", based on a couple of good ratings I saw in the various forums. It's not a bad looking show, though a little bit hard to follow -- and maybe not entirely due to the lack of translation, either. Still, it had a unique look to it, and the non-cg animation, while a tad low in the frame-count department, really managed to do something I find really rare in anime: give the characters "weight". It adds a level of "realness" to the characters that really caught my eye. There's also some variation in the camera angles and the cinematography in a way you don't see very often, and you know how much I like that. *grin*.

Unfortunately, I found out that show is one of the ones that fall under the Media Blasters Factory's "cease & desist" request to keep it from being fansubbed, even though it's not announced as licensed in the US. So I probably won't get to see it until it is, unless I want to be sneaky and go looking for other sources. Which I guess I'm capable of doing if I get totally bored with the anime season these next couple of weeks.

(Oh, right, what do I mean: "if"? *sigh*)

Techically it's Media Factory that did the whole "Cease and desist" thing. Don't want a great licensing company like Media Blasters to get a bad rep.

Sorry, Media Blasters!!

Noein 1 is subbed.

By me.

Check the usual places for it. I apologise for the timing errors in particular - I can't do anything about translation problems since I don't know if they're there or not, obviously, but there's a couple of annoying timing errors I might get around to fixing eventually (and I might even hardcode the subs next time if I can work out how to do it properly...)

I think it's great, but I can understand that others might not do. It's nothing like Bee Train, but as long as it keeps up its unconventional (for anime) directorial style I think you'll still enjoy it.

Well, regardless of how bad you might find Black Cat, and even if you're dropping it for good, I think you should finish episode 2, or at least watch it till this really neat scene that's a totally homage to noir! It's so obvious that you wouldn't fail to notice it!

Hmm. I really must be dense tonight, because I can't see it. And it was really painful trying to search for it. Where exactly?

Okay, I couldn't resist, so I checked it out. Good enough job, I think (not knowing JP at all). It clarified it a little more. Though I went and read a bit of the thread on AnimeSuki and they're talking about all kinds of details that I don't think were in there at all -- I take it this was a manga once?

Oh, and I agree with your "readme" point about honorifics in subtitles. Those kind of bug me a little as well.

lol ok, I can't tell you the exact time at the moment since I don't have access to the file, but it's when that girl with the japanese outfit is fighting the evil maniac bad guy who throws acid through his hands, there's this part when she's running through a corridor that's being only lightened by the light from the windows... maybe calling it an "homage" is exagerating :p , but that definetely seemed to be like a ripoff from the noir OP animation, when kirika is running through the same kind of light up corridor. I mean, the style is exactly the same, the whole fighting sequence just resembles the style on noir's OP animation a lot. Just try to pay a little more attention and if you still can't notice it maybe I'm just looking too much into things... ^^;
