"Lost" again

So you remember how I'd get really drunk and watch Lost In Translation and then want to express my undying, unrequited love to Sofia Coppolla?

Yeah, I'm doing it again tonight.

I watched her father's recent "Tetro", which was very nicely executed (even though
Vincent Gallo rather sucked in the dialogue-delivery department, but cinematographogly, it was outstanding), and it was getting late and I had a bit of a buzz and I thought... well, why not?

Her whole film is constructed of moments. How much is what Ms. Coppalla intenteded, how much came from Jesus & Mary Chain (and Elvis Costello and whatnot in the soundtrack), how much came from Bill Murray's impeccable timing (comedic and otherwise), and how much came out of editing... well, I can't say. But the moments and the visuals and the little things that happen on screen all capture me in some wierd alien (yet familiar) construct that speaks right to my heart.

And here's the part where I propose my undying love, though, sadly, it's way too late.

She's got a new film out recently, and I don't remember what it's called, but I'll be looking for it. And in the mean time, I'll always have Lost in Translation.
